Conrail SD40-2 units 6457 and 6511 shove an eastbound manifest through Greensburg, Pennsylvania with the Westmoreland County courthouse in the background. The date is October 30, 1983 in this transparency by David V. Leonard. The units were part of an order of 167 that EMD delivered to Conrail in 1978-79 that were equipped with Flexicoil trucks. On this former Pennsylvania Railroad main line these pusher units were known as "snappers." With the breakup of Conrail in 1998 this group was divided between CSX, Norfolk Southern, and leasing firms. Unit 6457 became NS 3390, first rostered under the subsidiary PRRX reporting mark, and is equipped with TMV Control Systems' traction and engine control unit (TECU) but not with cab signals. No information about the disposition of unit 6511 has come to light.
