This Pennsylvania Railroad publicity photo shows the original streamlined appearance of Q-1 No. 6130. It was one of the few North American locomotives built explicitly for freight service that were streamlined. (Stretching the concept to include dual service because of wartime restrictions, other examples might include the wartime Southern Pacific GS-5 and GS-6 4-8-4s and the Western Pacific GS-64 4-8-4s; the semi-streamlined Canadian Pacific "Selkirk" 2-10-4s were used in passenger service.) The Q-1's bullet nose was later removed for ease of maintenance, replaced by the conventional flat smokebox front.
