Displayed at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale, Arizona, is former Magma Arizona 2-6-0 No. 6. This Mogul type was built in 1907 by Burnham, Williams & Company, a division of Baldwin Locomotive Works, for the Arizona & New Mexico Railway. The engine was sold to the Magma Arizona Railroad in 1922 or 1923 when that line was converted from narrow to standard gauge, and ran there until retirement in 1961. (Another source states that in 1922 the locomotive was leased to the El Paso & Southwestern, a part of the Southern Pacific system, as its No. 130.) Subsequently No. 6 became the property of the Scottsdale Railway & Mechanical Society. No details are available concerning the locomotive's specifications. The copper-colored smokebox was a distinctive feature of Magma Arizona steam locomotives during their operating years. My sister, Lucy L. Hill, captured this image during a visit to Scottsdale in February 2014.
