Illinois Central 2-10-2 No. 2806 began life as No. 2914, delivered in 1921 by Lima Locomotive Works as part of a group of 100 locomotives, followed by another 25 engines in 1923. Between 1937 and 1942 the IC's Paducah Shops used the boilers from 2900-series 2-10-2s to construct 56 4-8-2s in the 2500 series, and other parts to build 15 2-10-0s and 41 2-8-2s. The remaining 2900-series 2-10-2s were also extensively rebuilt, but kept their wheel arrangement. The former No. 2914 was one of 20 engines rebuilt in 1943-45 and renumbered into the 2800 series. It appears here in a photo purchased from a eBay seller, attributed to the Tom Klinger collection, but no further details are forthcoming. No. 2806 was scrapped in 1960. For the dimensions of these 2800-series locomotives see the comments for No. 2817, following.
