I snapped this broadside view of Grand Trunk Western 0-8-0 No. 8348 at Pontiac, Michigan, in the summer of 1953. Delivered by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1927 as a member of class P-5-e, she had 22x28-inch cylinders, 51-inch driving wheels, and 220 p.s.i. of boiler pressure. The low-drivered switch engines of this class dug in with 49,691 pounds of tractive effort — more than many over-the-road locomotives — and weighed 211,200 pounds.
