The lone survivor of the CPR's H1b class is No. 2816, which the railroad restored to operation in 2001 as the "CPR Empress" to highlight a public relations program. With a change in railroad management the steam program was suspended in 2012, but the locomotive was once again returned to service in 2023. Converted to burn oil, No. 2816 is equipped with positive train control for operation on main lines.
