In this image captured by my brother, Canadian National No. 6024 prepares to depart Stratford, Ontario, on September 5, 1958. The fireman has the blower going to keep the fire hot. This 4-8-2 belonged to class U-1-b, outshopped in 1924 by Canadian Locomotive Company. The CNR system's first 60 Mountains of class U-1 (subclasses a through e) had a grate area totaling 67 square feet, an evaporative heating surface of 4049 square feet, and a superheating surface of 1087 square feet.
