B&O 2-8-2 No. 454, originally numbered 4482, appears here at Garrett, Indiana on March 31, 1957; the color transparency was contributed by Edward Lorence from his collection, but the responsible lensman is unidentified. Delivered in 1922 by Baldwin Locomotive Works as a member of the Q-4b class, she shared dimensions with the other members of this large fleet of 135 engines. Weighing in at 298,000 pounds, they had a grate area of 70 square feet, 3819 square feet of evaporative heating surface and 955 square feet of superheating surface; for other specifications consult the page for No. 4434 previous. All members of the Q-4 class were retired and cut up by 1959.
