Pittsburgh & Lake Erie class K-6b 4-6-2 No. 9248, formerly Boston & Albany No. 593, rests at McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania in on July 4, 1938. These K-6 engines were regarded as a superior example of the Pacific type, and might have achieved more renown had they not been so quickly overshadowed by the more advanced 4-6-4s and sent to a this NYC System subsidiary where they could not demonstrate their mettle on the upscale fleet of main line "varnish." For their specifications, see the commentary on B&A No. 595. No. 9248 was dropped from the roster in 1951. The photo, by William A. Raia, was acquired from an eBay seller.
