The Peoria & Eastern, operated as a branch by the New York Central, had its own roster of steam locomotives (see the Steam Collection) and maintained a separate identity into the diesel era. Some of the EMD GP-7s assigned to this operation carried the P&E herald on the cab and were lettered "New York Central System," whereas standard NYC lettering omitted the word "System". On April 26, 1958, my brother snapped this color image of P&E GP-7 units 5621, 5620 and 5622 on the west side of Bloomington, Illinois.
