The NYC's first road freight diesels were eight EMD FT 1350-horsepower units acquired in 1944, comprising four A units (classed DFA-1) and four B units (classed DFB-1). The A units featured the "cat-whisker" striping, which was soon replaced by the famous "lightning stripe" motif for all road units. A unit 1601 is paired with B unit 2401 in this 1948 view at an unnamed location, acquired from an e-Bay vendor. The photographer is unidentified.
