Termed a "centercab," locomotive 53 was home-built in 1928 by the Texas Electric Railway, which converted it from a traction coach. Subsequently it was owned by the Charles City Western but came to Mason City in 1968. Reportedly, the Iowa Terminal never used it and placed it in storage. In 2016 the unit was acquired by the Iowa Railroad Historical Society and moved to the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad with the intent to restore it to operating condition. I was able to get this view of in July 1973.
