The Whitcomb Locomotive Works produced small locomotives for industrial and short-line service. The plant was located at Rochelle, Illinois between 1907 and 1952, when owner Baldwin Locomotive Works shifted production to its Eddystone, Pennsylvania, plant. Whitcomb built this 50-ton side-rod unit in Rochelle in 1946 for the W. F. Hall Printing Company of Chicago. Subsequently the unit was used elsewhere and in 2005 the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad donated it to the City of Rochelle, where it is displayed at the popular Rochelle Railroad Park. I took this transparency on September 29, 2005.
