New York Central EMD E8A 4059 and its companion B unit have halted at Chicago's Englewood Station with one of the railroad's crack trains, perhaps the Twentieth Century Limited, in July 1954 when 4059 was only about a year old. This unit's trucks and other underbody parts are have been sprayed with aluminum paint, a treatment that was NYC practice during the mid-to-late 1950s to render its passenger diesels more attractive to the public. On other diesels these parts were painted standard "locomotive black."
