Chicago Great Western EMD FP7A 116-A came from LaGrange in 1950 as one of two such CGW locomotives equipped with steam generators for service on passenger trains. In 1971, after the 1968 merger into Chicago & North Western, 116-A became C&NW 217 and continued in service until around 1985. It was in storage until 1993, when the C&NW donated it to the Hub City Heritage Corporation Railway Museum in Oelwein, Iowa. After cosmetic restoration the unit was placed on display at the museum in 1995, where I photographed it on September 4, 2000. |
