Amtrak Turboliner 52 passes Wann Tower, Springfield, Illinois, sometime between 1973 and 1981 on what was then the Illinois Central Gulf. The Amtrak RTG Turboliners, based on a design created by the French manufacturer ANF (Ateliers du Nord de la France), were powered by gas turbine engines that burned diesel fuel. They were retired from the Chicago-based operation in 1981, but later saw service in New York State. This image is from the Gary Thompson collection.
