The Reading class G-3 4-6-2s weighed 329,450 pounds and developed 48,340 pounds of tractive force. They had a grate area of 95 square feet, 2985 square feet of evaporative heating surface, and 770 square feet of superheating surface; other specifications appear on the preceding page for No. 214. With their high drivers these G-3s were well suited for the fast passenger duty on the Philadelphia-Jersey City run, or the Camden-Atlantic City service over the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines. No. 217 posed for the builder's photo at the railroad's Reading shops in 1948.
