Michigan's Pere Marquette Railroad operated lines in southern Ontario as well, and this photo of class C-2 Consolidation No. 374 was likely taken in Windsor although the precise details, including photographer and date, are lacking. American Locomotive Company products of 1903, they were retired by 1945. Specifications for this class indicate they had 445 square feet of superheater surface, in addition to 2175 square feet of evaporative surface, so it may be that No. 374's squared steam chest has been retrofitted with piston valves. (The square chest is usually an indicator of slide valves, which cannot be lubricated with superheated steam.) The C-2 class sustained 200 pounds of boiler pressure, and had 57-inch drivers and 21x26-inch cylinders. They mustered around 34,200 pounds of tractive effort.
