The Illinois Central's 2500-series Mountains had a locomotive weight of 409,500 pounds, and their small tender was eventually augmented with an auxiliary water tank as shown here. For the specifications of this class, see the commentaries on Nos. 2502 and 2528 previously. Bruce Meyer snapped No. 2553 at Champaign, Illinois during the summer of 1954. She had been rebuilt in 1942 from 2-10-2 No. 3016, and was scrapped in 1956. For more views of the Illinois Central 4-8-2s, visit the Illinois Central page in my Steam Locomotive Archive.
