In 1939 the Illinois Central's Paducah shops built 4-8-2 No. 2528 from 2-10-2 No. 2924. Her dimensions were the same as those of No. 2502 preceding. These Mountains of the 2500 series had a grate area of 88 square feet, 5160 square feet of evaporative heating surface, and 1285 square feet of superheater surface. No. 2528 met the torch in 1960, according to Ray Breyer's all-time IC steam roster spreadsheet. Of this class, only Nos. 2500 and 2542 are preserved on display. No. 2528 appears here in a photo by Bruce Meyer, taken at Paducah in June, 1954.
