The American Locomotive Company delivered the five locomotives of class K-4-a to the Grand Trunk Western in 1924. They had 73-inch drivers, 25x28-inch cylinders and a boiler pressure of 200 p.s.i. Their locomotive weight was 285,500 pounds, and they delivered about 41,000 pounds of tractive effort. In this view No. 5627, first locomotive in the K-4 series, pauses at Durand before crossing the Chicago-Port Huron main line to bring Muskegon-Detroit train No. 56 into the Durand depot.
