Grand Trunk Western 4-6-2 No. 5043 rests at the Milwaukee Junction terminal in Detroit on August 12, 1958 in this image captured by my brother David. These 69-inch-drivered engines of class J-3-a weighed 224,100 pounds, sustained 185 p.s.i. of boiler pressure, and had cylinders measuring 23x28 inches. With these dimensions they exerted 33,755 pounds of tractive effort. No. 5043's original Grand Trunk number was 113; she went to the scrapyard in 1961.
