Substituting for the regular Consolidation on the daily local freight through Bellevue, Michigan is Grand Trunk Western class J-3-a 4-6-2 No. 5042. She is on a break-in run after shopping at Battle Creek. These Pacifics were built in 1912 by Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Grand Trunk Railway, this example being originally numbered 112; for their specifications see the page for No. 5043. This image, taken on size 116 film with my father's ancient Kodak folding cartridge camera, is one of my earliest steam photographs and dates from December of 1952. No. 5042 was retired in 1955.
