The final group of Chesapeake & Ohio "Kanawhas" came off the American Locomotive Company erecting floor in 1947; No. 2786 posed at the ALCo plant in Schenectady, New York, to represent the class in this builder's photo. These 2-8-4s featured a 90-square-foot grate area, 4773 square feet of evaporative heating surface, and 1932 square feet of superheating surface. Twelve examples of this C&O group survive, all but one of the others having been consigned to the scrapyard by 1961.
