Canadian National No. 3547 prepares to couple to its outbound train at Stratford, Ontario, on September 5, 1958. This 2-8-2 of class S-2-a was a 1923 product of Montreal Locomotive Works. With 63-inch drivers, she sustained a boiler pressure of 185 p.s.i. and had 25x30-inch cylinders. Weighing 314,800 pounds, she produced 54,590 pounds of tractive force. The S-2 class had 63 inches of grate area, 3550 square feet of evaporative heating surface, and 885 square feet of superheating surface. This is another of the many views my brother snapped on his 1958 expedition into Canada.
