Shown at Stratford, Ontario on May 5, 1959 is Canadian National 2-8-0 No. 2586, a member of class N-4-a erected for the Grand Trunk Railway by American Locomotive Company in 1907 as NO. 731. By the time Walter Taylor snapped this photo, from the collection of Tom Rock of Rock on Trains, most of these locomotives would have been retired — but it is hardly surprising that three members of the N-4-a class (not including this example, which was scrapped in 1959) have been preserved at locations in Ontario and Québec. For the specifications of the N-4 class, see the commentary for No. 2629.
