The Peoria & Eastern, operated as a branch by the New York Central, had its own roster of steam locomotives (see the Steam Collection) and maintained a separate identity into the diesel era. Some of the EMD GP7s assigned to this operation carried the P&E herald on the cab and were lettered "New York Central System," whereas standard NYC lettering omitted the word "System". In February 1958 I photographed P&E GP7 No. 5620 performing switching duties near the old freight house in Bloomington, Illinois.
