Robert Graham captured No. 5369, formerly Michigan Central No. 8224, on film at an unknown location before the 1936 system renumbering. She was one of 75 members of class J1d outshopped by American Locomotive Company, located along NYC trackage in Schenectady, New York, in 1929-30. (For her dimensions, see the commentary on Hudson No. 5367.) The original Hudson, No. 5200, came from the American Locomotive Company with the Walschaerts valve gear, but all subsequent locomotives were built with the Baker valve motion as shown here. All Hudsons had a booster engine in the trailing truck for help in starting heavy trains.
