In July 1974 scene from the Amtrak era, a young mother and several children view Turboliner 60 at the Bloomington depot from the platform of the "BN Target" shanty. The Amtrak RTG Turboliners, based on a design created by the French manufacturer ANF (Ateliers du Nord de la France) were powered by gas turbine engines that burned diesel fuel. Beginning in 1973 until 1981 they operated from a base in Chicago, on several lines including the Chicago-St. Louis route over what was now the Illinois Central Gulf. The transparency was probably taken by my father, Dr. R. D. Leonard, or my brother David V. Leonard.
