An earlier shot of 2-8-2 No. 4371 was taken at Girard, Illinois, on May 1, 1940. The engine appears to have been freshly shopped but the Worthington feedwater heater visible in the previous photo has not yet been installed. In this rear-angle view we get a good look at the "doghouse" on the tender, where the head brakeman would ride. This photo came from the collection of Paul Heins of Lincoln, Illinois and is shown here courtesy of the late William K. Dunbar of Bloomington. Mr. Dunbar identified the engineer in the gangway as J. C. "Jack" Harrison.
